Welcome to Rainbow Moraine Farm

Welcome to Rainbow Moraine Farm! We are Christine and Amanda. We are a small, LGBTQ and veteran owned family farm in Southeastern Wisconsin. We’re just getting started here, so please join us for our dream journey to regenerative farming, raising heritage animals, organic gardening, and all around self-sufficiency. The practices of monocultural agriculture have stripped this land of its nutrient and life-sustaining topsoil, and we hope to heal the 4 acres of land that we purchased in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin by rotationally grazing our registered 1927® fine fleece Shetland Sheep and registered KuneKune pigs. We also raise chickens and will be adding heritage turkeys.

Why did we name our farm Rainbow Moraine? And what the heck is a moraine anyways? We live in an area of the midwest that was shaped by glaciers, and a moraine is a geological term for a mass of rocks and sediment carried down and deposited by a glacier. This 4 acre plot of land has a soil type called “glacial till” which basically means that we have A LOT of rocks in our soil. The cool thing about our rocks is that they are many different types and colors, all carried here and deposited about 35,000 years ago. We have an entire rainbow of rocks!

The theme of rainbows continues into our egg-laying chickens. Did you know that egg shells come in pretty much all colors - shades of blue, green, pink, brown and white? Our chickens are pasture-raised and enjoy sunshine, grass, and bugs and lay beautiful eggs. Because they are pasture raised, the eggs are more nutritious and the yolks are the most vibrant yellow you can imagine. Plus they taste amazing!

Rainbows can symbolize many different things including hope, good luck, new beginnings, unity, peace, and inclusion. As an LGBTQ owned farm, these things are very important to us. We are stretching the typical norms of homesteading and hope to educate others on inclusion and diversity within this community. This is our new beginning and we hope you’ll join us!
